Did Rohit Sharma cost Ajit Agarkar his job? The EXPLOSIVE selection room fallout revealed!

Ritik Sharma (Noida): The road ahead for veteran opener Rohit Sharma sparked a major behind-the-scenes disagreement between the selection panel and top cricket administrators. Prior to the white-ball series against England, Ajit Agarkar's committee, alongside the team management, decided to transition away from the former captain after the Lord's ODI.

South Zone selector Pragyan Ojha was tasked with delivering the message to Rohit, who wanted to play in the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup. Unhappy with how the situation was handled, Rohit reached out to a high-ranking board official to express his concerns.

Behind closed doors and board dynamics

The situation escalated when the BCCI unexpectedly issued an official statement backing Rohit and putting retirement rumors to rest, leaving Agarkar completely out of the loop and frustrated.

While Agarkar believed younger players like Yashasvi Jaiswal needed ample international matches to settle into the ODI squad ahead of the World Cup, the board preferred a more cautious approach with veteran stars. Feeling sidelined regarding major calls on senior players and skipping a key review meeting, Agarkar realized that big decisions regarding cricket megastars ultimately rest with the administration rather than the selection panel, leading to his exit.
